Hard Chinook is blowing, it's tearing me to shreds Pounding like a speedball smoking freight train through my head I heard the screen door banging, I heard that ol' dog growl When the nighttime comes a-callin' that wind is gonna howl It might make me crazy, I might start confusing sanity with sin The last man left to stand it is the only one not blown off by the wind Pretty senorita tried to pull me from my game She tried to love me tenderly, wanted me to do the same But love is hard, it has to be in order to survive So give it like you mean it if you want to stay alive When she pulls up right beside me in some mem'ry really only just pretend Well, I'm blown back to my senses as I watch an old ghost blown off by the wind Don't tread on any ground that you're not fit to handle Wildfire burns and spreads from some ol' lonely candle On a sixty-mile an hour tear the soul out of you day If you didn't come to take it, you'd better come to pray When the red flag gives a warning, and you see four horsemen coming in the end That's just another fear to feed that'll just as soon be blown off by the wind

The Boom 03:49
They're rolling up red carpets on Highway 59 They're stacking rigs to save up for a bigger bottom line You can smell the worry blowing off the eastern plain No one talks beyond the facts but the facts are just the same When it gets back up to eighty, when supplies are wearing thin Then the boom is gonna roll around again I left a world in shambles seven years ago I came to build a better life beneath the wind and snow Seven days of work like meant skies were getting blue Now how much of this scraping by do I want to put us through My wife says we can make due on whatever she brings in Then the boom is gonna roll around again Half the nation's screaming "drill, baby drill" Half just hates our way of life, they love this jagged little pill Both go off to fight some other battle far away While I sit here in the aftermath to try to fight another day Someday we'll have a big parade like a better day that's been Then the boom is gonna roll around again I can smell the worry blowing off the eastern plain

I've moved on down the line from yesterday and all I find is Some sorry feeling I won't solve a thing remembering So I'll let go of yesterday, but first I've got to say to you that You've got to let go of my heart, you've got to cut your lonely cards Out of my memory, girl let me set you free You need to make another home, I need to make it on my own You've got to let go of my heart Don't want to tell you how to live your life, I'm past that now But I don't want you with me after you've been gone for so damn long Now, I'm not gonna beg you but you ought to know that I don't care so You've got to let go of my heart, you've got to cut your lonely cards Out of my memory, girl let me set you free You need to make another home, I need to make it on my own You've got to let go of my heart Something about you in my head, my heart, Just leaves me here in the dark It's not that you have anything to do with what belongs to me, so You've got to let go of my heart, you've got to cut your lonely cards Out of my memory, girl let me set you free You need to make another home, I need to make it on my own You've got to let go of my heart I've moved on down the line from yesterday

about

West of center and east of west are the high and dry North American Great Plains. Making a living goes only as far as the price of a barrel of oil will let it. Love has to be hard in order to survive. And everything breathing or otherwise is constantly weathered by the western wind. Hearts can get as calloused as two hard-working hands, but a little sun can melt the ice pretty quick. For the cowboys, cool cats, drunks, and drifters who cast shadows here, life is a rough, rewarding ride across the HARD NATRONA PLAIN.
